Our Commitment to Accessibility
VPMG Property Management is committed to ensuring that our website is accessible to all users, including people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves equal access to information about housing and property management services, regardless of ability. We strive to meet or exceed the standards set by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, as developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We regularly review our site for compliance issues and make improvements as technology and standards evolve. This statement describes what we have done, known limitations, and how to reach us if you experience a barrier.
What We Have Done
We have taken the following steps to make our website more accessible:
Semantic HTML Structure
Our pages are built with semantic HTML5 elements — including proper heading hierarchy (h1, h2, h3), landmark regions (header, nav, main, footer), and structured lists — so that screen readers and assistive technologies can correctly interpret and navigate the page structure.
Alternative Text for Images
Meaningful images on our website include descriptive alt text that conveys the purpose or content of the image to users who cannot see it. Decorative images that add no informational value are marked with an empty alt attribute (alt="") so screen readers correctly skip them.
Color Contrast
We have designed our website with sufficient color contrast between text and background to meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards. Text and interactive elements use contrast ratios of at least 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text. We avoid conveying information through color alone and provide additional visual indicators (such as underlines for links and icons for status indicators).
Keyboard Navigation
Our website is designed to be navigable using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse. Interactive elements — including navigation menus, links, and form fields — are accessible via the Tab key, and focus states are visually indicated so that keyboard users can see where they are on the page.
Responsive Design
Our site is built with a fully responsive layout that adapts to different screen sizes and orientations, including mobile phones, tablets, and desktop monitors. Text can be resized up to 200% without loss of content or functionality, supporting users who require enlarged text.
Form Accessibility
All form inputs include associated labels that describe the purpose of each field. Error messages are clearly written and associated with the relevant form field. Required fields are identified, and users receive clear guidance when a form submission contains errors.
Link Text
We write descriptive link text that makes sense out of context, avoiding generic phrases like "click here" or "read more" wherever possible. This helps screen reader users who navigate pages by jumping between links.
Known Limitations
While we strive to achieve full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, we recognize that some areas of our website may not yet fully meet these standards:
- Third-party content — The Rentvine tenant and owner portals are operated by a third-party platform (Rentvine). VPMG has no direct control over the accessibility of the portal interface. If you encounter accessibility barriers in the Rentvine portal, please contact us and we will do our best to provide an alternative means of completing your request.
- PDF documents — Any PDF files linked from our website may not be fully optimized for screen reader accessibility. If you need the content of a document in an accessible format, please contact us and we will provide the information in an alternative format.
- Older blog content — Content published on our blog prior to our most recent accessibility review may not fully meet current standards. We are working to review and update older content over time.
Requesting an Accommodation
If you encounter any accessibility barrier on our website, or if you need information available on this site in an alternative format (such as large print, audio description, or plain text), please contact us. We will make every reasonable effort to provide the information or service you need in a format that works for you.
VPMG is also committed to providing reasonable accommodations in its housing-related services to applicants and tenants with disabilities, as required by federal and Washington State fair housing law. For housing-related accommodation requests, please see our Fair Housing Statement.
